What to expect at your first appointment

Making Appointments

Case History

Your first session will include a consultation where a case history will be taken.  This includes questions about your current and previous conditions, medical history and general health.

Physical Assessment

Assessment involves a physical examination of simple movements and stretches of the problematic areas of the body.  It is likely you will be asked to remove any clothing, down to your underwear if appropriate, so that we can properly assess and treat the problem area.  There is a changing room for this purpose.  If you are  uncomfortable with this, shorts and a vest can be worn instead.  You may also bring a friend/partner if you would feel more at ease.

Diagnosis & Treatment

The case history and assessment will allow us to form a diagnosis so we can understand the root cause of your problem in order to apply the most effective treatment for you.

If osteopathy/massage is appropriate we will treat during the same appointment with your consent.  If we cannot treat you, we will refer you to your doctor or another appropriate healthcare professional.

Aftercare

Due to the physical nature of treatment it is not unusual to feel sore for 24-48 hours after treatment.  We will explain any possible effects of treatment, if you have any concerns please get in contact.

You may require more than one treatment but we will keep appointments to a minimum.  Exercises and advice will be given to allow you to help yourself at home and speed up your recovery.
